For The Door collection, Basak Cankes once again collaborated with Firat Neziroğlu, this time to adapt Antoni Gaudi’s architectural work of art. The collection brings to life the unmistakable colors, mosaics and details of Gaudi buildings in Neziroglu’s hand-woven designs. Instead of using fabrics, Basak preferred to interpret her patterns by using only hand weaving and she also used hand knitting, embroidery details and leather crafts in the collection.

Each piece in the collection is unique, which reflects the Basak’s motto of creating ‘’wearable art’’. In stark contrast to the mass-production mentality of fast fashion, Cankes chooses to produce singular, one-of-a-kind pieces, turning every Bashaques’ runway show into a walking art exhibition. She not only designed the collection but she also designed the podium herself at her studio. ‘’I was inspired by the colors and shapes Gaudi used and I wanted to reflect Gaudi’s inimitable characteristic of his works in my designs by working only with hand-weaving art in this collection. Each design is unique because all of them are hand crafted and singular. We are not the ones who believe that wearable art is a form of artistic repression.’’ she says.
