Basak Cankes, the creator of the Bashaques’ label that specializes in ‘Wearable Art’, was born in 1988 in Izmir.
The salutatorian of her graduating class at the Izmir Economy University Fashion Design Department, she had the opportunity to intern with Arzu Kaprol, Yildirim Mayruk and Hey Tekstil during her university years.
Her innate aptitude for pattern and illustration discovered by her professors was further nurtured by her experiences gained as an intern with Bora Aksu in England. Under Aksu’s guidance, she started to focus on arty paintings and wearable art.
Basak also successfully completed Fashion Management, Fashion Styling, PR and Your Fashion Label trainings at Central St Martins in England.
Upon graduation from the university, she worked as personal assistant of designers such as Gunseli Turkay and Gul Agis. Basak designed arty patterns for Turkay’s winter collection called “Kirik Porselen”.
She co-created Marble&Co, a white shirt label with her designer partner. But soon afterwards, she left Marble&Co partnership in order to focus more on her own label Bashaques’.
Basak Cankes’ AW15/16 collection is awarded by Mediterranean Fashion Prize Committee in Marseille and Centre of Fashion Enterprise in United Kingdom in 2015.
